BEFORE & AFTER
CARE INSTRUCTIONS

this is important information to help prevent any undesired outcomes. being consistent and following these tips will allow for an ideal service. please always inform me of any new changes in health history or medications. failure to do so may cause adverse reactions.

SUGAR/thread

many overlook the fact that hair grows on skin so, if the skin is not at an optimal condition, the hair is going to resist. this is a team effort and failure to be diligent will not get you the most bang for your buck.

however, sometimes skin is just high maintenance and picky. regardless of what you do, it will rebel and react. these tips should help minimize them, but unfortunately cannot be guaranteed due to varying physiology.

PRE-CARE (sugar only):

*hair length needs to be min. 1/8in long. that is about 1-3 weeks of growth. if hair is longer than 1in please trim to max. of 1/4in.

*skin should be free of , dirt, sweat, oils, lotions, creams, balms, and soap residue. any product or residue on the skin will obstruct the sugar from grabbing the hair for removal. meaning, the service cannot be done!  also gently exfoliate the day before will prep skin for sugaring.

*if you are on your mensi, please plug it up, so as to not paint my bed red.

POST CARE (sugar+thread):

*the initial 48 to 72 hrs*

  • avoid any nooners, friction or rubbing, hot tub, sun, tanning, hot showers, scrubbing, sweating or swimming since the pores are more exposed.

  • leave the area alone and avoid any bacteria exposure the first 48h. (especially lips. they can be reactive post threading)

  • try to avoid touching the area, applying any face oil, any make up, use any harsh soaps, any heavy creams or lotions.

POST CARE (sugar only):

*after 48 to 72 hrs*

  • exfoliating with scrub 1 to 3x a week. adjust according to how your skin handles it. be gentle on the face, but little more aggressive on body parts.

  • moisturize with a body oil everyday, or every other day if you cant do it everyday. that should keep ingrowns away and keep the skin supple.

  • these are 2 crucial steps for maintaining your sugar after you leave the studio. it prevents ingrowns and allows your hair to reach the skin surface for sugaring. you cannot omit one or the other. they go hand in hand because our skin needs to be hydrated & moisturized. over exfoliating will cause breakouts and be counterproductive. not moisturizing will cause skin to become dry, flaky and dehydrated.

*breakouts*

  • one is a histamine reaction. so the bumps look like "hives". please ask pharmacist or dr for a topical to treat this type of reaction.

  • the other is a bacterial reaction. the bumps will look like white dots. that will take up to a week to disappear. please ask pharmacist or dr for a topical to treat this type of reaction.

  • wearing loose and clean clothing after sugaring will help reduce the risk of breakouts. loose fitting, breathable underwear is also helpful for brazilians. you may also go underwear free.

  • sometimes the skin will have difference reactions. even if you have been sugaring or threading for a long time. this may still occur.

facials/dermaplane

it is imperative that you take care of the skin afterwards because your skin has just been “shed”. we want to protect that brand new layer of skin from the elements. below are some instructions to help prevent any complications. but also, enjoy your fresh face!

*initial 24 to 48hrs*

do: avoid sun exposure as much as possible. if you will be in the sun, apply spf 30 and reapply every 2 hours. try to seek shade, wear a hat.
do: avoid exposure to heat, sweat, heavy workouts, steam rooms, or saunas.
do: use a gentle cleanser and avoid hot water. keep good hydration, intrinsically & extrinsically.
do: use generous amounts of hydrating products (toners, water based serums) to keep skin moisturized and supple.
don’t: use abrasive wash cloths, scrubs, over manipulation of skin, extra exfoliation, or abrasive electric scrubbers or take hot showers.
don’t: get waxed, lasered, or a chemical peel. you may wax prior, however the waxed areas will not be dermaplaned due to irritation.
don’t: apply makeup or touch your face
don't:
use active products (retinols, acids)

maintenance:

do: make sure cosmetic brushes are clean and use new makeup to prevent clogging or bacteria contact. also keep face cloths clean. wash them regularly along with pillow cases.
do: schedule every 4 weeks for best results and continue homecare
dermaplane don’t: use benzoyl peroxide, retin-a or salicylic acid for at least 5 days following treatment. (for darker skin tones, use a lightening serum to reduce risk of pigment production.)

*please be aware as with any treatment, there are risks. these instructions should help with minimizing any complications. however, everyone’s skin is different and will react differently. because we are sloughing off the skin cells, you may experience some minor breakouts, redness, tightness due to water loss, especially with your first time. please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
